Rider experience

The location of this place is absolutely amazing. It is set in a really quiet, peaceful spot right next to Lago di Endine, and the views are fantastic. Best of all, the roads leading up to it are brilliant—plenty of scenic routes with loads of curves that make for a really fun ride. Parking is decent too. While it’s not a solid, enclosed garage, there is a massive space tucked right under the hotel’s balconies. It’s inside the hotel grounds and secured by an electronic gate that only the reception staff can open and close, so you can rest easy knowing the bikes are safe. The staff are super friendly and always ready to help you out. Another massive bonus is the on-site restaurant and bar. After a long day in the saddle, you don't have to wander out for food; the meals here are great, the portions are big, and the prices are very fair. There aren't any specialized bike facilities like drying rooms, but it's a fantastic base.

This place is a phenomenal find if you are touring northern Italy and want to dodge the overcrowded, high-traffic chaos of nearby Lake Garda or Lake Como. Albergo La Romanella sits right on the shoreline of Lake Endine, offering a brilliant, laid-back atmosphere. They have a spacious private parking lot right on site, meaning you can park up and unload your heavy touring luggage with absolute ease. The absolute highlight of staying here is the hospitality and the food; it’s run by a wonderfully welcoming local family (the main host, Signora Romana, is brilliant). After a long day tackling mountain switchbacks, sitting down on their panoramic lakeside veranda for dinner is pure perfection. Their restaurant serves incredible, authentic homemade Bergamasco food—do not leave without trying the local casoncelli pasta or the fresh lake fish.

Things to know

The walk from the parking area to reception isn't bad, but the hotel doesn't have a lift. Lugging heavy bags and riding gear up the stairs to the rooms is definitely a bit of a workout! The hotel has a strict night-closure policy between 01:00 AM and 06:00 AM where the main access doors are locked, so don't plan on arriving or departing in the dead of night. Also, note that the on-site restaurant closes on Tuesday evenings during the winter season, so if you are off-season touring, double-check your arrival days!
